Mervyn King is a British economist born on 30th March 1948 in Chesham Bois. He earned early education from Warstones Junior School Wolverhampton. In 1969 he achieved a first-class degree in economics from Kings College Cambridge and Harvard University. At the University of Birmingham, he worked as Researcher on Cambridge growth project. At London School of Economics, he became Professor of Economics where he founded the Financial Markets Group.
In 1991, Mervyn King joined the Bank of England as executive director and chief economist. In 1997, he was appointed as Deputy Governor, in the same year he also becomes a member of Group of Thirty. On 1st July 2003, Mervyn King succeeded Sir Edward George and appointed as Governor of the Bank of England. Mervyn King was the first mandatory governor of the Bank of England to be acknowledged in the audience with Queen Elizabeth.
In July 2013, Mervyn King received an honorary degree from Abertay University. He also received an honorary degree Doctor of Laws from Cambridge University in 2006. In 2015, Mervyn King was ranked as the 11th most influential person in the Financial Centre’s International top 500.
