He is Italian economist born on 3rd September 1947 in Rome. He served the European Central Bank as President from 2011 to 2019, before that he also served the Financial Stability Board as Chairman from 2009 to 2011 and also remained Governor of Bank of Italy from 2005 to 2011. He also worked at Goldman Sachs from 2002 to 2005. He served as Italian Executive Director of World Bank from 1984 to 1990, later he became the general director of Italian Treasury until 2001.
