Ireland is an island located in North Atlantic region. It is 3rd largest island in Europe, 2nd largest of British Isles and 20th largest on earth. Geographically, it is divided into Republic of Ireland, officially known as Ireland, and Northern Ireland, which is part of United Kingdom. Both share their open border and are part of Common Travel Area for tourists. As of 2016, the population of Ireland was about 6.6 million and 1.8 million in Northern Ireland.
Both Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland are member of European Union. In terms of GDP per capita, Republic of Ireland is listed among the wealthiest countries in the world. According to Human Development Index it was ranked 6th most developed nation in the world. From 1995 to 2008, is called period of Celtic Tiger Period, because this was period of rapid economic expansion. The year 2008 brought to an end with extraordinary economic depression and financial crisis.

Ireland is also member of PIIGS, it is the 2nd country who receive bailout from European Union, International Monetary Fund and ECB to shore up its banking sector.
