The Hungarian forint is an official currency of Hungary with code HUF and symbol Ft. It was officially subdivided into 100 filler but filler are no longer in circulation. The forint was introduced as an official currency of Hungary on 1st August 1946 in the post-World War II for stabilization of Hungarian economy. The currency remained stable until 1980. In the early 1991s, the currency was adversely affected due to peaked inflation of 35%. As a member of European Union, the Hungarian government aimed for a long time to replace Hungarian forint with euro, but doesn’t seem to be possible until 2020s.
The Hungarian National Bank is responsible authority for issue of currency. Recently banknotes of 500 Ft, 1000 Ft, 2000 Ft, 5000 Ft, 10,000 Ft, and 20,000 Ft are generally circulation in Hungarian economy.
