The Hong Kong dollar is an official currency of Hong Kong with code HKD and sign HK$. It is further subdivided into 100 cents. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the Hong Kong dollar and de facto central bank for Hong Kong is the government body for issuance of currency.
Under the license issued by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, three main commercial banks are responsible authorities to print banknotes for general circulation in Hong Kong. These three commercial banks include Standard Charted, Bank of China and HSBC. The banknote of HK$10 and all coins are issued by the Government of Hong Kong.
The Hong Kong dollar is also used in its neighbors, Macau along with their official currency Macau pataca. As of April 2019, the Hong Kong dollar is documented as world 9th most traded currency. Recently banknotes of 1¢ 5¢ 10¢ $1 $5 $10 $20 $25 $50 $100 $150 $500 $1000 and coinage of 1mil 1¢ 5¢ 10¢ 20¢ 50¢ $1 $2 $5 $10 are circulation in Hong Kong economy.
