Greece is a country located in Europe Southeast, historically known as Hellas, while officially known as the Hellenic Republic. Its national capital is Athens and population is nearly 10.7 million as of year 2018. Greece is located at cross border of Asia, Europe and Africa. Greece shares its land borders with the Turkey to northeast, Bulgaria and North Macedonia to north and Albania to northwest. Greece has 11th longest coastline on Mediterranean Basin in the world featuring many stunning islands. The Greece 80% area is mountainous, having highest peaks including Mount Olympus with height 4973 ft. Greece comprises of nine old-style geographic regions, Central Greece, Macedonia, Peloponnese, Aegean’s Islands, Epirus, Thessaly, Ionian Islands, Crete and Thrace.
Greece is developed country with high standard of living, high quality of life and advanced high income economy. According to the statistics of World Bank, 2013, the Greece is 52nd largest by purchasing power parity and 43rd largest by nominal gross domestic products. Greece is ranked 38th in the world according to per capita income. Its economy mostly comprises of industry (12%), service sector (85%) and agriculture contribute 3% to national economy. It is ranked 16th most visited country in the world by the United Nations World Tourism Organization and 7th by European Union.
Greece is part of Eurozone since 2001, it was 9th member to join European Union. Greece is also member of various international organizations including, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Council of Europe, the world Trade Organization (WTO), the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD), the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), International Monetary Fund (IMF) and many more.
