Lari is currency of Georgia that is subdivided into 100 tetri. The name Lari is derives from old Georgian word signifying a hoard, property, while name tetri is derives from old Georgian economic term which means white. Earlier Georgian currency include abazi, Georgian coupon and maneti.
On 5th April 1993, Georgia replaced Russian ruble with the Kuponi at par. The currency suffered from hyperinflation because it was consisted of only banknotes and no subdivision. Later on provisional coupon currency was replaced with Lari by the Government of Eduard Shevardnadze, on October 1995. It has stayed fairly unchanging since then.
